Tradition & Innovation: Pipe goes Midi

The new Hey organ in Nanjing is quite progressive and combines traditional techniques with modern features. Using a touch screen at the console of the organ offers full access to the electrical key- and stop-actions, coupling functions and a midi player.

The midi player can be used for training purposes of the organist and allows to listen to pieces in different tempos and registrations in the room, while the organ plays automatically. The pieces are recorded directly in the widely compatible MIDI format and improvisations can then be converted in notes on a PC and be printed out. Any midi files can be transferred via USB stick.
